What are the age requirements for Kindergarten?

Students entering Kindergarten must be 5 years old by October 15th of the upcoming school year.

Who is the Kindergarten teacher at SJNRS?

Mrs. Mary Hartz is the Kindergarten teacher. She is a certified teacher with over 30 years of experience. Mrs. Hartz has been at SJNRS for 18 years and teaching “K” for 15 years during which time youngsters have sung and danced their way through Kindergarten!

Where is the Kindergarten classroom?

The Slatington Campus houses the primary grades, Kindergarten through 2nd grade.

What is the schedule for Kindergarten?

SJNRS has an All-Day Kindergarten Program. The Slatington Campus begins school at 8:00 a.m. and dismisses at 2:25 p.m. Morning break for snack and recess occur at 9:25 a.m.; lunch with recess begins at 11:30 a.m. Students may pack lunch or buy the school hot lunch or milk.

What does the Kindergarten curriculum entail?

The Kindergarten curriculum encompasses: Religion, Reading, Writing, and Math. In Religion, students learn prayers, Bible stories, social skills, and attend Mass weekly. The Reading curriculum develops vocabulary, phonics skills, reading comprehension, fluency, decoding skills, and literature appreciation. Writing skills are developed through handwriting skills, letter and number formation, journal writing, and sentence structure. Math activities include number recognition, rote counting to 100, comparisons, graphs, money, geometry, problem-solving, and simple addition and subtraction. Science, Social Studies, and social skills are taught in Kindergarten. All students have “Special” teachers for: Art, Computer/Technology, Physical Education, Music, and Library weekly.

What do students do for lunch and snack?

Parents/students have the choice of buying hot lunch at school or packing a lunch. Students may purchase milk at the school. Youngsters bring a drink and a snack daily. Snacks should be healthy, i.e. fruit, crackers, yogurt, etc. Juice boxes or water work best for drinks.

Do Kindergarten students wear uniforms?

All students in grades K-8 wear uniforms. The uniform requirements are outlined in the SJNRS Parent Handbook or under “Documents” on this website.
