Tax Credit Program

Turn your Pennsylvania taxes into scholarships for SJNRS students.

A group of young children, wearing red and yellow shirts, are standing together with their arms raised in a gymnasium or indoor sports facility.

Through Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) programs, eligible individuals and businesses can direct a portion of their state tax bill to Saint John Neumann Regional School instead of to Harrisburg. These gifts provide need-based tuition assistance for families who want a Catholic education but need financial help to make it possible.

How the Program Works

  1. How the Program Works

  2. You (or your business) make a contribution through an approved scholarship organization that supports Saint John Neumann Regional School.

  3. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania grants you a state tax credit on your PA taxes:

    • Typically 75% of your gift for a one-year commitment

    • Up to 90% of your gift for a two-year commitment

  4. Your contribution is used to provide scholarships for SJNRS students.

Example:
A $2,000 two-year tax credit gift may earn you up to a $1,800 PA tax credit each year (90%), while providing $2,000 in tuition assistance to our students.

Exact benefits depend on your individual tax situation—please consult your tax advisor.

Who Can Participate?

Many Pennsylvania taxpayers are eligible, including:

  • Individuals with PA personal income tax liability

  • Owners of pass-through businesses (S-corps, LLCs, partnerships, sole proprietors)

  • Corporations and other businesses that pay PA state taxes such as personal income tax, corporate net income tax, bank shares tax, insurance premiums tax, and several others approved by the state.

If you’re not sure whether you qualify, a quick call to your accountant or financial advisor can usually provide the answer.

Why Designate Your Tax Credit Gift to SJNRS?

Your participation:

  • Opens the door to Catholic education for students who could not otherwise afford it

  • Keeps our school economically diverse, welcoming families from a wide range of backgrounds

  • Strengthens our ability to offer strong academics, faith formation, and extracurriculars

  • Allows you to support a mission you care about without increasing your overall tax bill in most cases

You are essentially saying, “If I have to pay these taxes anyway, I’d rather help children at Saint John Neumann Regional School.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the same as EITC/OSTC?
Yes. “Tax Credit Program” is our simple name for Pennsylvania’s Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) programs. These programs provide state tax credits when you give through approved scholarship organizations that support schools like SJNRS.

Does this replace my regular charitable giving?
It can, but it doesn’t have to. Many donors treat tax credit gifts as part of their normal giving because the tax credit significantly reduces the out-of-pocket cost of their support.

Is there a minimum gift?
Minimums and program details can change. We’ll share the current guidelines when you contact the school office or our partner scholarship organization.
